There are so many milestones in a babies life and so many things, as parents, we have to keep track of, like teaching your child their shapes and fine-motor skills. Another important skill to keep track of is hand-eye co-ordination.
Hand–eye coordination is the ability of the vision system to coordinate the information received through the eyes to control, guide, and direct the hands in the accomplishment of a given task, such as handwriting or catching a ball. Source
There a many daily activities that you can incorporate into their routines that will help them to develop this skill. Our range of Tooky Toys can help develop these skills. We have put together our 5 favourite Tooky Toys that we think are the best to use for developing your child’s hand eye co-ordination.
Cutting Set. There are a few different themes of this to suit your child’s interests. This can help with hand-eye co-ordination because your child has to “cut” through the items which requires them to follow the knife and the item they are cutting. Putting them back together also means they are using their eyes and hands to put each item back together.
A DIY Building Set. These building sets are ideal for older toddlers. They have smaller pieces that require concentration and skills to put them together, This set is also great for fine motor skills as well as hand-eye co-ordination.
Puzzles. Puzzles in general are great toys in to develop your child’s hand-eye co-ordination. The chunky pieces are great for little one’s and as they get older you can progress to more difficult ones. Puzzles require little ones to manipulate and turn pieces around to figure out which way they fit, if at all.
Peg Boards. These are one of our favourite toys for many reasons. They are great for fine motor skills but also for hand-eye co-ordination when your child follows the pattern board. The patterns are colour coded so they learn their colours as well as develop their hand eye co-ordination.
Pound and Tap Musical Box. This Tooky Toy is perfect for babies. By pounding the balls through the holes they are learning concepts and consequences.
